What about exercise?
There’s three kinds of people during ‘the season’.
Those who don’t stop, those who do and those who never did.
If you’re the kind that feels guilty about taking a break from your exercise routine here’s some facts for you to absorb.
Benefits of taking a week or two off exercising (ideally every 8 – 12 weeks):
Your training is just the stimulus, it’s in the resting periods you will experience biochemical, neural and hormonal changes that cement results from your efforts.
Muscles, tendons and ligaments repair themselves, the glycogen energy stores in your muscles and liver are replenished and your testosterone levels recover.
Research in Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise proved that 14 days of rest causes little change in bench press or squat performance.
You may already feel a bit burnt out from socializing, lowered concentration levels can be a serious precursor of injury.
Take time out or be prepared to alter your routine, there’s no shame in simply having a maintenance plan for a few short weeks, changing things often leads to better performance when you come back.
