Handy tips to overcome over- eating:

Plan ahead
When attending a gathering take a raw vege platter or salad with you and a healthy dip.  Serve from this platter before the pies and cakes.

Drink lots of water
Water is filling, drink a glass before you go to your gathering and once there have another before you eat.

Watch your alcohol intake
You’re not lightweight if you don’t keep up with everyone else, in fact as the saying goes, you’re legendary! It’s a smart move to drink some water between your alcoholic beverages, the longer your night lasts the more fun you’ll have. Your body uses booze to fuel your movements and stores the food you ate as fat.
Bonus of controlling alcohol intake?  Less expanding waist- line.

 Eat slowly
Studies have shown that by chewing slowly we digest it better and feel fuller on less food. We can do this by putting down our utensils between bites and mindfully enjoy the tastes and textures.

Be less sedentary
Keep moving. Not only is exercise good for your heart and bones, it’s good for your mental health! With such great company why not suggest a game of T- ball, throw a ball or a simple walk.

As for friendships?
It can be a very agonising and depressing time of year, with expectations we can barely keep ourselves let alone anyone else. Having a little understanding and acceptance goes a long way. We can take a few deep breaths, remove ourselves from the situation, express that for now we can set aside our differences being responsible in promoting enjoyment of the occasion for all present.
